The fee and timings for 2027 are usually confirmed in late December and had not been published when we wrote this, so the practical details below are based on the 2026 edition.

A short history
Numaish began in 1938 as a small fair of local products at Public Gardens, with about 50 stalls. The idea came from the economic committee of the Osmania Graduates Association, and it had the backing of the Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, and his prime minister, Sir Akbar Hydari. In 1946 it moved to its present home, a ground of about 23 acres near Nampally railway station. It later took the name All India Industrial Exhibition, though everyone in Hyderabad still calls it Numaish, the Urdu word for exhibition.
The fair has run almost without a break. It was cancelled in 2021 because of the pandemic, and in 2022 it was suspended during the Omicron wave and resumed later, ending in April that year. The All India Industrial Exhibition Society, which organises it, uses its surplus to support educational institutions in Telangana.
What happened in 2026
The 85th edition is the best guide to what 2027 will look like.
- It opened on 1 January, inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, and closed on schedule on Sunday 15 February.
- Reports put the number of stalls at about 1,050, with up to 1,250 traders taking part.
- Entry was βΉ50, with children under five free.
- By mid-February nearly 20 lakh visitors had been counted, and the organisers expected the total to pass 23 lakh.
- The opening days had some teething trouble, with several stalls reported without power.
- Alongside shopping, the fair hosted competitions, including a cooking contest.
What to buy
Numaish is a shopping fair first. Traders travel from across the country and stay for the full 46 days, and regulars return to the same stalls every year.
| Look for | Typical stalls |
|---|---|
| Woollens and shawls | Kashmiri traders with shawls, stoles and pherans |
| Dry fruits and saffron | Kashmiri and wholesale dry-fruit stalls |
| Embroidered clothing | Lucknowi chikan kurtas, suits and sarees |
| Handlooms | State handloom and handicraft corporation pavilions |
| Home goods | Carpets, bedsheets, crockery, kitchen gadgets |
| For children | Toys, games and school supplies |
| Furniture and decor | Wooden furniture, lamps, artificial flowers |
Bargaining is normal at private stalls. Start well below the quoted price, compare two or three stalls selling the same thing, and be ready to walk away. Government and co-operative pavilions sell at fixed prices. Carry cash in small notes as well as UPI, because the network slows down when the grounds are full.
Food and rides
The food courts are a destination in themselves, with chaat, mirchi bajji, kebabs, biryani, sweets and ice cream at long rows of stalls. Go before 8 pm if you want a table. The amusement zone at the edge of the grounds has a giant wheel and other fairground rides, and a toy train circles part of the grounds. Younger children do best on a weekday evening, when the queues are short. More ideas for families are in our weekend guide for kids.
When to go
| Period in 2027 | What to expect |
|---|---|
| 1β3 January (FriβSun) | Opening long weekend. Busy, and not every stall is ready on day one |
| 4β13 January | The calmest stretch. Best for serious shopping |
| Mid-January | Sankranti holidays bring heavy crowds |
| Late January β 5 February | Steady weekdays, packed weekends. Republic Day, Tuesday 26 January, is a holiday rush |
| 6β15 February | The final ten days. The biggest crowds and the best last-minute discounts |
Whatever the week, the pattern within a day is the same. The first two hours after the gates open are comfortable, and the crush builds from about 7 pm. If you want to shop and eat without queues, go on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and be there when the gates open.
The second half of the fair overlaps with other dates. The Hyderabad Literary Festival is on 22β24 January, Valentine’s Day falls on the second-last day, a Sunday, and Ramzan is expected to begin around 8 or 9 February, which usually shifts some of the crowd to later in the evening.
Getting there
By metro
The metro is the best way to reach Numaish. Gandhi Bhavan and Nampally stations on the Red Line are both next to the Exhibition Grounds, and during the 2026 fair visitors were advised to use the foot overbridge at Gandhi Bhavan station to cross the road. Hyderabad Metro was reported to run services until 11:30 pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends and holidays during the 2026 exhibition. On normal days the last trains leave the terminals at about 11 pm, so check the notice for 2027.
From the Blue Line, change at Ameerpet. From the Green Line, change at MG Bus Station, which is two stops from Gandhi Bhavan.
By road
Hyderabad Traffic Police ran diversions around the grounds from 4 pm to midnight on all 45 evenings of the 2026 fair, covering the roads between Nampally, Gandhi Bhavan, Abids and MJ Market. If you must drive, come before 4 pm or park at a metro station further out and take the train for the last stretch. A multi-level parking complex near the grounds was reported to charge βΉ30 an hour in 2026.
By train and bus
Hyderabad Deccan station at Nampally is a short walk from the grounds, and city buses stop on the main road outside. Our Nampally area page lists what else is nearby.
Practical tips
- Fix a meeting point. The lanes look alike and phones struggle in the crowd. Agree on a spot near the gate you entered by.
- Travel light. Carry a small bag and a foldable tote for purchases.
- Dress for the evening. January nights in Hyderabad are cool, and you will be outdoors for hours. Wear comfortable shoes.
- Keep valuables in front pockets. The lanes near the food courts get very dense.
- Watch for special days. In past years the society has set aside a day for women and concessions for children. Look for the 2027 announcement.
- Keep children close. If you get separated, go to the organisers’ announcement booth or the nearest police post.
- Know your exits. A major fire damaged stalls at the exhibition in 2019. Note the nearest exit lane when you settle in to eat.
Make a day of it
Nampally is in the middle of old Hyderabad, so it is easy to add something before the gates open at 4 pm. Public Gardens and the State Museum are next door. Abids is a ten-minute walk, with its bookshops and Irani cafΓ©s. One metro stop north, Lakdikapul has the Birla Science Centre and Birla Mandir. Our list of free things to do in Hyderabad has more.
We will update the fee, timings and special days on our Numaish hub as soon as the society announces them. For other fairs this season, see expos and exhibitions and the flea markets page. If you are in town for the countdown, our New Year’s Eve guide covers the night before the gates open.
