About Nehru Zoological Park
Nehru Zoological Park, beside Mir Alam Tank at Bahadurpura, is one of the largest zoos in India at about 380 acres. It opened to the public on 6 October 1963 and receives well over twenty lakh visitors a year. Animals are kept in open, moated enclosures, and safari vehicles take visitors through fenced areas with lions, tigers and bears. The nocturnal animal house reverses day and night so that its residents are active during visiting hours. An aquarium, a butterfly park, a dinosaur park, a natural history museum and a toy train round out the day. The zoo runs feeding talks and education programmes, with special events in Wildlife Week each October. It is closed on Mondays.
