Hyderabad is the capital of Telugu cinema, and film here is a public event. First-day shows at the single screens of RTC X Roads are celebrations in themselves, the large-format screen at Prasads on Necklace Road sells out for big releases, and AMB Cinemas in Sarath City Capital Mall draws crowds on opening weekends. Audio launches and pre-release events fill Shilpakala Vedika and halls in Film Nagar and Yousufguda whenever a star is due on stage. For cinema beyond the mainstream, Lamakaan in Banjara Hills screens documentaries and independent films with discussions, often free, and film societies hold screenings at cultural centres across the city.
