About Lamakaan
Lamakaan is a non-profit open cultural space in a converted house off Road No. 1 in Banjara Hills, near GVK One mall. It began hosting events in March 2010 and has become the meeting point for Hyderabad's theatre groups, poets, film societies and activists. On most evenings there is a play, a documentary screening, a book discussion, a mushaira or a music session, and its October 2026 calendar ran from reading circles and a Bathukamma gathering to Telugu and Hindi plays. Many events are free; workshops and some plays carry a small fee. The space is open from 10 am to 10 pm, Tuesday to Sunday, and is closed on Mondays. Its canteen is a draw in itself.
