About Golconda Fort
Golconda Fort was the capital of the Qutb Shahi sultans before they founded Hyderabad in 1591, and it remains the city's largest monument, protected by the Archaeological Survey of India. Visitors test the clap that carries from the entrance portico to the hilltop, then climb past the ruins of palaces, mosques and storehouses to the Bala Hissar for a view over the western city. After dark a sound and light show narrates the fort's history, with separate English, Hindi and Telugu shows. The Bonalu season opens here each year at the Jagadamba temple inside the fort, and heritage walks start at its gates through the cooler months.
