About Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium (LB Stadium)
Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium, known to everyone as LB Stadium, stands on Fateh Maidan in Basheerbagh, between Nizam College and Public Gardens. The ground takes its old name from the Mughal victory in the 1687 siege of Golconda. The stadium was established in 1950 and renamed in 1967 after the former prime minister. It was Hyderabad's international cricket venue before Uppal, hosting three Test matches and 14 one-day internationals, and floodlights were added in 1993. Today the Sports Authority of Telangana State runs it for football, athletics and state sports meets, and the open ground and the indoor hall in the complex are booked for public meetings, religious gatherings, school events and large cultural programmes.
