About Chowmahalla Palace
Chowmahalla Palace, a few minutes' walk from Charminar, was the seat of the Nizams of Hyderabad, where rulers were installed and state guests received. The name means four palaces. Its centrepiece is the Khilwat Mubarak, the pillared durbar hall hung with Belgian crystal chandeliers, facing a long courtyard with a fountain pool. The complex was restored and opened to the public in 2005, and the work received a UNESCO Asia-Pacific heritage award in 2010. Galleries show the Nizams' vintage cars, weapons, clothing and photographs. The courtyards are also hired for heritage dinners, fashion shows, concerts and weddings. The palace is open from 10 am to 5 pm, Saturday to Thursday, and is closed on Fridays.
